In his annual NFL mock draft, Peter King of SI.com has predicted that the New York Giants will select Notre Dame offensive lineman Zack Martin with the 12th overall pick Thursday night in the 2014 NFL Draft.
King writes:
Must Reads
The offensive line is being overhauled and the Giants will pounce if Martin’s there. "Most versatile lineman I’ve seen come out in the draft in the last 10 years,’’ one assistant GM tell me.
This comes one day after King called Martin the "hottest guy in the draft."
Adding to the Martin chatter, Daniel Jeremiah of NFL.com selected Martin for the Giants in his latest mock draft. Former NFL general manager Charlie Casserly is also on the Martin to the Giants bandwagon. SI.com's Greg Bedard writes that the player the Giants "should" select is Texas A&M wide receiver Mike Evans.
Valentine's View
Mock drafts that point Martin to the Giants aren't earth-shattering, or surprising, at this point. The pick makes so much sense, it's sort of eerie. The Giants still have an acknowledged need on the offensive line, they have a well-known and admitted love for offensive linemen with versatility and having been burned by some risky picks in recent years they might be inclined to play it safe early in this draft. Martin fits all of those criteria.
