Eli Manning is taking snaps during OTAs for the Giants, a good sign in his recovery from ankle surgery.

So much for general manager Jerry Reese's declaration that New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning is "out of spring ball" following surgery on his left ankle. Manning appears to be participating in the team's first OTA Wednesday morning at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center.

That appears to be Manning on the far right taking a snap from center J.D. Walton.

Manning had offseason surgery after suffering a high ankle sprain in the final regular season game of the 2013 season.

Though he can be seen here taking snaps we don't know how much moving around the quarterback is doing. OTAs include 7-on-7, 9-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills. We don't know if Manning will participate in any of those, although perhaps we will find out later today.

There is media access to the workout on Thursday, and yours truly will be in attendance. We will know more then. For now, the sight of Manning at least taking some snaps has to be comforting to Giants fans.

Here is a quick video of a quarterback drill in which Manning was a participant.

Here is Eli throwing a quick pass to Victor Cruz with Tom Coughlin watching closely.
