Rusty Smith we hardly knew ye. Smith, the quarterback signed just two weeks ago by the New York Giants, was one of for players released today as the team announced the signings of five undrafted free agents.

The free agents signed by the Giants are defensive tackles Kelcy Quarles of South Carolina and Eathyn Manumaleuna of BYU, defensive end Kerry Wynn of Richmond, linebacker Justin Anderson of Louisiana-Lafayette and safety Thomas Gordon of Michigan.

The Giants terminated the contract of Smith, who had formerly been a backup quarterback for the Tennessee Titans. They waived linebacker Allen Bradford, cornerback Junior Mertile and kicker Jordan Gay.

Quarles, 6-foot-3, 297 pounds, was considered a likely Day 2 pick in many draft circles and surprisingly went undrafted. Quarles is the biggest name of the group of UDFA signings, and might have the best opportunity of ultimately making the roster. [Scouting Report]

Manumaleuna, 6-2 and 305 pounds, played both nose tackle and defensive end at BYU. He is already 25 years old. [Scouting Report]

Wynn, 6-5 and 270 pounds, had 12.5 sacks at Richmond in 32 games.

Anderson, 6-2 and 232 pounds, led Louisiana-Lafayette in tackles during each of the past two seasons.

Gordon, 5-11 and 210 pounds, played in 46 games at Michigan. He had six interceptions
