Perhaps it is fitting that on the day the movie 'Draft Day', featuring Kevin Costner as Cleveland Browns' GM, opens in theatters that we have reached the Browns selection at No. 26 in the Big Blue View Community Mock Draft. With that pick, 'GiantBuckeye' grabs Alabama offensive tackle Cyrus Kouandjio.
'GiantBuckeye' explains:
Cyrus was a consensus top 15 pick going into the season and at the end of the college regular season. An obviously out of shape Cyrus destroyed that status with a horrible Sugar Bowl and combine performance, calling into question his maturity and the health of his surgically repaired ACL from three years ago.
First, the knee. Dr James Andrews has signed off on Cyrus' knee, stating after examining Cyrus personally that he has nothing but normal wear in the knee for a man of Cyrus' size. If the worlds foremost expert on ACL injuries is willing to sign off on Cyrus' knee that is good enough for me. Also of note the NFL did not require a re-check of the knee, so they have also signed off as Andrews has.
Cyrus held a pro day at Alabama this week where he looked in much better physical condition, weighing in at 322 lbs and recording a 31 inch vertical. This guy is a physical freak when taking his work seriously and after costing himself millions by being out of shape at the combine I believe he will be motivated to be a dominant RT for the Browns. He is a mauler in the run game who needs to gain consistency with his footwork in pass protection, so playing RT is a perfect spot for him. I also considered Ryan Shazier, Calvin Pryor, and Jason Verrett for this selection but the opportunity for a dominant tackle was simply too great to pass up.
