The Cincinnati Bengals, with 'Freedmad25' in the role of GM, have opted for Missouri defensive end Kony Ealy with the 24th overall selection in the 2014 Big Blue View Community Mock Draft.
'Freedmad25' explains:
With Michael Johnson's departure, the Bengals are looking to fill the void opposite of the very strong Carlos Dunlap. Currently the Bengals have Margus Hunt and Wallace Gilberry looking to take up the starter's position. However, I do not believe Gilberry has the talent to be an NFL starter, and I think it is a big question mark whether or not the 27-year-old Hunt will achieve his full potential. Additionally, you can never have too many pass rushers, so the Bengals I am picking Kony Ealy from Missouri. At 6-foot-4, 270 poundswith 34-inch arms, Ealy has the build of a prototypical 4-3 defensive end. Ealy lacks elite burst, but has extremely good change of directions skills. This, combined with his size and strength leads me to believe that he can be a very good run defender and a plus pass rusher who will will more often with technique rather than speed around the edge. With regards to fit, Ealy has a great deal of scheme versatility, and I believe has the ability to eventually play anywhere from the 7 technique to the 3 technique on passing downs. This type of versatility in addition to his strength against the run were staples of Zimmer's offense, and as new defensive coordinator Paul Guenther learned under Zimmer, I do not expect him to deviate too far from this mold.
