Kevin Boothe Signing: Ex-Giant joins Oakland Raiders

The New York Giants and Oakland Raiders continued their 2014 NFL Free Agency swap meet Monday night with now-former Giants offensive lineman Kevin Boothe signing with the Raiders.

Boothe, who will be 31 next season, spent the last seven seasons with the Giants. He was originally selected by the Raiders in the sixth round of the 2005 NFL Draft.

So far, former Giants Boothe and Justin Tuck have gone to Oakland. Former Raider Rashad Jennings is now a Giant.

What it means for the Giants

Boothe leaving means one less option at center for the Giants. The team recently signed former Denver Broncos' center J.D. Walton to a surprisingly generous two-year, $5 million deal. Walton, 27, later this month, has started 36 NFL games but has not played a snap since suffering a serious ankle injury during the 2011 season.

Dallas Reynolds is an exclusive rights free agent who was tendered by the Giants. He started 14 games for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2012, and played in three games for the Giants in 2013 after being claimed on waivers last season.

Perhaps the Giants bring back restricted free agent Jim Cordle as competition for Walton. Cordle made the first seven starts of his NFL career last season.

Brian De La Puente, formerly of the New Orleans Saints, is still on the free-agent market. With all of the moves they have made it is hard, however, to believe the Giants have the money to make a run at De La Puente or Alex Mack of the Cleveland Browns.

The Giants could, of course, use the 2014 NFL Draft to bring in a center.
