While you were sleeping the New York Giants were still working in NFL Free Agency, signing safety/kickoff returner Quintin Demps. Demps played last season for the Kansas City Chiefs. The Giants will be the 28-year-old six-year veteran's fourth NFL team.
Demps will add safety depth. The Giants alread have Antrel Rolle, Will Hill, Stevie Brown and Cooper Taylor at the safety position. More attractive to the Giants, however, might have been Demps' ability as a kickoff returner. The Giants missed earlier in free agency in efforts to sign return men Jacoby Jones and Ted Ginn Jr. Demps averaged 30.1 yards with one touchdown on 33 kickoff returns for the Chiefs last season. For his career, Demps has averaged 27.4 yards on 96 returns. Demps has never returned punts.
The Giants have been active in free agency, and have continued this weekend to try to improve a team that has missed the playoffs two straight seasons. The Giants are scheduled to host Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, the best cornerback left on the free-agent market, today in East Rutherford.
