[UPDATE 5:04 PM EDT]

Valentine's View: Walton started every game for Denver in 2010 and 2011. He was a 2010 third-round pick. Don't go nuts here thinking the Giants are counting on the guy to be their starting center. This is going to be a no-risk 'kick the tires' move to see if the guy has anything left in the tank.

It looks like linebacker O'Brien Schofield, who had agreed to a two-year, $8 million deal, won't become a member of the New York Giants. There had been speculation much of Wednesday afternoon that issues with Schofield's knee that cropped up during a Giants' physical jeopardized the deal, and now NJ.com's Jordan Ranaan is referring to the deal as "dead."

Schofield reportedly suffered a knee injury in 2010 at the Senior Bowl, but has had no knee issues as a pro.

Here is what else is going on with the Giants and free agency as we head into Wednesday evening.

-- Offensive lineman Geoff Schwartz (four years, $16.8 million, 6.2 million guranteed) and running back Rashad Jennings (four year, $14 million, $3 million guaranteed) have signed their Giants' contracts. Both took to social media to break the news.

Here, incidentally, is a quote from Schwartz.

One further note about Schwartz. There had been lots of speculation that he might play right tackle. That does not seem to be the case.

-- The Giants missed out on wide receiver/kick returner Jacobs Jones, who returned to the Baltimore Ravens on a four-year deal.
