2014 NFL Draft: Prospect Profile -- Kyle Fuller, CB, Virginia Tech

You can never have too many quality cover cornerbacks. Kyle Fuller is one that we haven't really mentioned but is quickly rising amongst the pack as one of the best in the 2014 NFL Draft class. He is a 6-foot, 190-pound corner from Virginia Tech and was running mates with our very own Jayron Hosley.

Let's explore if its possible for Fuller to reconnect with Hosley as a member of Big Blue.

Pros

- The premier zone corner in this year's draft. Better than Dennard. Better than Gilbert. Better than Roby.

- Awareness is probably second only to Darqueze Dennard.

Holy moley. That PD rate essentially means that Fuller got his hands to defense a pass one out of every three targets. He was only burned 24 percent of the time, which is the best that Greg Peshek has charted from the top 10 corners he's charted. That's unbelievable.

- Solid athleticism to go along with a good frame.

- Aggressive in run support, with phenomenal read/react skills.

Cons

- I never saw him get a good jam on a receiver. Might not be a great press corner.

-T here are better man coverage corners out there.

- Injury red flag. Had a sports hernia surgery that forced him to miss multiple weeks.

- Ball skills are questionable. Only 4 interceptions the past two years combined.

Does He Fit With The Giants?

Absolutely. Given Perry Fewell's penchant for playing zone, Fuller is probably the best fit for this defense. His awareness is off the charts and he doesn't allow for completions to be made when transitioning from one zone to another. He'd fit like a glove here from a scheme perspective as well as from a locker room perspective as his buddies David Wilson and Jayron Hosley are already here.

Final Thoughts

Fuller is a fast rising prospect. Some of these big board rankings will likely have him rise after a few more updates. I guarantee he will be a top 50 player when BigBlueView's big board update comes out. (Update: He went from not being in the top 50 all the way up to 35) He's an ideal fit for this Giant defense and there isn't much not to like.

However, the upside may not be fully there and there are questions about his health and athleticism. With more teams playing man coverage, Fuller may still be available in the 2nd round. I think I'd take a chance on him there if nobody else caught my eye, but he's one of those plug and play type players that you don't worry about too much. Count me in as a fan.
