Peyton Hillis to re-sign with the Giants | New York Daily News
Valentine's View: The Daily News is reporting that the 28-year-old Hillis is receiving a two-year deal from the Giants. Personally, I can only take that as bad news for Andre Brown, who is also a free agent. The two-year deal is an indication of somewhat of a commitment to Hillis, who carried 73 times for 247 yards and caught 13 passes last season.

Told you yesterday about Trumaine McBride. Source confirms deal is now done: 2 years, $3.1 million. Again, very smart move by #NYG.

Valentine's View: Two quick takeaways here. Watch for the Giants to continue to add low-cost, veteran depth at corner. Also, unless something unexpected happens in free agency I have to believe cornerback is in play at No. 12 for the Giants.

The clock is ticking toward the real beginning of NFL Free Agency 2014, with teams finally able to sign players from other teams beginning at 4 p.m. ET Tuesday. Here is what basically amounts to a New York Giants' free-agency scorecard entering Tuesday.

Salary Cap
The moves made by the Giants on Monday, with both Chris Snee and Steve Weatherford accepting pay cuts, leave them somewhere between $22-25 million under the $133 million. Snee's cap number went down from $11.3 million to $5.65 million, with his base salary for 2014. now $1.1 million. Weatherford's cap number was $2.925 million, and the amount of his new deal is currently unknown. Without knowing Weatherford's cap number, or the new deals placekicker Josh Brown and cornerback Trumaine McBride will reportedly sign, Over The Cap lists the Giants at $22.171 million under the cap. Factor in the release of David Baas, which is not yet official, and the cap space is roughly $23.9 million.
What To Expect On Tuesday
Let's look quickly at some of the questions that should be answered today.
Which center will it be? With the report that Baas will be cut there also came word that the Giants showed interest Monday in the top two unrestricted free agent centers on the market, Evan Dietrich-Smith of the Green Bay Packers and Brian De La Puente of the New Orleans Saints. There is an expectation that one of those two will be a Giant shortly after the signing period opens this afternoon.
Several big-name Giants will go free. Linebacker Jon Beason, defensive end Justin Tuck, safety Stevie Brown, defensive tackle Linval Joseph and wide receiver Hakeem Nicks headline the list of Giants who hit the open market this afternoon.
A new tight end in town? The Giants were linked to Andrew Quarless of the Packers, Ed Dickson of the Baltimore Ravens and Brandon Pettigrew of the Detroit Lions on Monday. Could one of them sign quickly with the Giants?
The Giants could also be active in seeking help at a variety of other positions, including running back, guard, cornerback and linebacker.
Let the fun begin!
[UPDATE 9:24 AM EDT ]
I'm hearing RB Peyton Hillis will re-sign with the Giants, probably today says a source. Adds depth to Giants' uncertain backfield.
