Free agency news and rumors for Monday as the 'legal tampering' period continues.

The 2014 NFL Free Agency signing period does not begin until 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday. With the 'legal tampering' portion of free agency entering its third day, however, what could happen during the first wave of free-agent signings is beginning to take shape. Let's look at how that could impact the New York Giants.

Hakeem Nicks

It seems pretty obvious at this point that the wide receiver will soon be an ex-Giant. That isn't hard to figure out when Nicks is talking about getting a long-term deal and not including the Giants when naming teams he would like to get it from.

Alterraun Verner

You had to figure that cornerback, where the only sure thing the Giants have is Prince Amukamara, would be a position the Giants would be attempting to upgrade this offseason. What didn't seem likely was that the Giants would be among the teams in the hunt for the talented and soon-to-be very, very rich Verner. According to reports over the weekend, however, that has been the case.

Verner to the Giants seems highly unlikely to become reality. There were reports Sunday night the Tennessee Titans' cornerback might already have a deal in place. Where might Verner be headed? The New York Jets have been reported to be interested in Verner and they did release cornerback Antonio Cromartie on Sunday to clear cap room, so it isn't hard to make the connection there. By late Tuesday afternoon we should know for sure.

Arthur Jones

It was widely reported over the weekend that the Giants were one of many teams to express interest in the Baltimore Ravens' 6-foot-3, 315-pound defensive lineman, a player analysts figure could fit the Giants as a  five-technique defensive end or as a defensive tackle -- or both.

Are the Giants really willing to spend big for Jones? Are they just fishing to see what the market price to replace Justin Tuck might be? Again, we will find out soon enough.

Ryan Mundy

My assumption all along has been that Mundy would be moving on and that the Giants would re-sign Stevie Brown, who missed the 2013 season with a torn ACL. Might that not be the case? Aditi Kinkhabwala of NFL.com reported that the Giants have "stated a negotiating position" to Mundy, who apparently also has drawn interest from the Chicago Bears. With Antrel Rolle, Will Hill and Cooper Taylor already on the Giants' roster it is hard to see both Mundy and Brown with the Giants in 2014.

Other News And Rumors

Vontae Davis and the Indianapolis Colts are apparently closing in on a deal that would keep the cornerback off the market.

St. Louis Rams' offensive lineman Rodger Saffold reportedly is leaning toward signing with the Oakland Raiders for approximately $8 million per year.

Kansas City Chiefs' guard Jon Asamoah, thought to be a target for the Giants, is reportedly heading to the Atlanta Falcons.
