Stevie Brown Free Agency Rumors: 'Some discussions' with Giants

Contract talks have taken place between free-agent safety Stevie Brown and the New York Giants, but Brown's agent, Blake Baratz, was non-committal on Tuesday when asked about the status of those talks.

"They would like him back and Stevie would like to be back," Baratz said. "We've had some discussions and we'll continue to have some discussions."

Brown, 26, intercepted eight passes while starting 11 games in a breakout 2012 season. He suffered a torn ACL in a preseason game against the New York Jets and missed the entire 2013 season. In December, Brown said his rehab was "progressing nicely."

The Giants have exclusive negotiating rights with Brown and all of their free agents until March 8, with player able to sign with other teams beginning March 11. Perhaps Baratz was just trying to turn up the heat on the Giants a little, but he indicated Tuesday that if Brown reaches free agency "I have a feeling there is going to be a decent market for him."

The Giants have veteran Antrel Rolle and the talented but troubled Will Hill at safety, along with 2013 fifth-round pick Cooper Taylor. Keeping Brown would seem as though it should be a priority for a team that has plenty of other holes without creating one at safety.
