Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers will be the featured performers Sunday evening during the Super Bowl Halftime Show? Yes, seriously. Bruno Mars. Oh, NFL, you could have done soooo much better by New Jersey.

Sure, I'm an old guy and barely know who the 28-year-old Mars is. I had to Google him to find out that he was the Billboard top artist of 2013 and earned a Grammy Award for top pop vocal album of 2013. Name any of his songs? Fuhgeddaboudit!

Bruno Mars? Are you kidding me? Ah, well his 12 minutes will be a good excuse to go check my e-mail or grab a bite to eat or -- at my age -- visit the bathroom.

This could have been sooooo much better.

Since this is a historic Super Bowl, the first one held outdoors in a cold-weather venue, how about busting out one of the two legendary rockers who call New Jersey home? That would be Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi.

Springsteen, of course, did the Halftime Show in 2009.

Springsteen also "closed the old lady down" with a concert at Giants Stadium before the structure was torn down.

Bon Jovi is one of the best-selling bands of all-time. The band performed the first concert at MetLife Stadium to a sold-out house.

Oh, well. At least I know when I will get a chance to get up and get away from the TV for a few minutes Sunday evening.
