Could the Giants look to free agency to add depth at cornerback?

Prince Amukamara had an excellent 2013 season for the New York Giants, and is a lock to return at one cornerback spot in 2014. Beyond that, the cornerback spot is a huge question mark.

Trumaine McBride and Terrell Thomas are free agents, and there are pros and cons to bringing either or both back. Jayron Hosley remains unproven after two seasons.

If the Giants choose to try and upgrade the cornerback position via free agency, could Tarell Brown of the San Francisco 49ers be a player they target?

ESPN 49ers reporter Bill Williamson had this to say about Brown:

He is a solid cornerback who has helped this team. He is a free agent who is expected to test the market, but I wouldn’t be shocked if the 49ers brought him back.

Brown, 5-foot-10, 190 pounds, has scored Pro Football Focus grades of +8.4, +15.3 and +7.0 the past three seasons. Quarterbacks completed 42-of-73 passes (57.5 percent) targeting Brown in 2013.

Brown was a 2007 fifth-round pick by the 49ers. He has been a full-time starter the past three seasons.
