Can the New York Giants (6-9) defeat the 9-6 Philadelphia Eagles Sunday at MetLife Stadium, a feat that would give them a four-game winning streak to end the season? Does it really matter one way or the other if the Giants win the game?
'Rap' wrote earlier this week about the value of the young core of Giants growing and learning how to win games. He wrote, in part:
" ... seeing the future of the team take shape, grow up, and play well before our eyes is worth so much more than draft position, I'm not sure how to even quantify it."
Head coach Tom Coughlin, who may or may not be coaching his final game, certainly believes that winning is important.
"Any time you line up, it's important to win," Coughlin said. " I've talked all year about improvement and individual improvement and team improvement and progress and all of those kinds of things, and there has been a little bit of progress and I certainly would like to see it continue."
Quarterback Eli Manning was asked during the week about the importance of learning to win. Here is what the two-time Super Bowl MVP said:
"I think it is important. I think it's important for that group of guys to come together to figure that out. It comes when you do have some wins and you overcome obstacles and you deal with things," Manning said. "I think you have that expectation that you can handle whatever anybody throws at you. It might be a bad drive or a bad play, but you're going to erase it and be prepared with the mindset that you're going to be able to go win that game and I think that's where we're getting."
Beating a divisional foe with a winning record, even one that has little to play for after being knocked out of the playoff race a week ago, would be another step in that learning process. That has to be more important than one or two spots in the draft order.
