The New York Giants are cornering the market on players named Brown. Cornerback Chykie Brown became the fourth Giants named Brown -- joining, Josh, Stevie and Charles -- when he was awarded to the Giants Wednesday off waivers from the Baltimore Ravens. Brown takes the roster spot of Prince Amukamara, who was placed on season-ending injured reserve.
Brown, 27, is a four-year veteran who has played in 46 NFL games. The 5-foot-11, 191-pound 2011 fifth-round draft pick played in seven of the Ravens' nine games this season. He played all 16 games in both 2012 and 2013. He played 448 defensive snaps in 2012, but only 39 last season. Brown had played 141 defensive snaps this season, with an ugly passer rating against of 137.5.
This is what Baltimore Beatdown said on Tuesday when the Ravens cut Brown:
Brown had a horrible game this past Sunday against Pittsburgh and that was likely the final straw for him as a member of the Ravens. Brown was always considered a project since he was drafted in 2011 but never was able to elevate his play to become a serious consideration for the rotation.
This is what it's come to for the Giants, a team that at one time had a secondary thought to be among the league's best.
