With Cullen Jenkins and Jacquian Williams out with injuries Sunday, Mike Patterson will start at defensive tackle and Mark Herzlich at linebacker for the New York Giants when they face the San Francisco 49ers.
Patterson, in his 10th season, will be making his third start of the season for the Giants. Patterson has struggled this season after playing well for the Giants a year ago. With Jenkins out, rookie third-round pick Jay Bromley is active [complete inactives] and figures to see a considerable amount of playing time. To date, Bromley has played only 28 defensive snaps. Bromley and Markus Kuhn are the reserve defensive tackles.
Williams leads the Giants in tackles with 78. With him sidelined by a concussion, Herzlich will be making his fourth start of the season. Williams' absence may also mean an increased workload for rookie linebacker Devon Kennard. The Giants have veteran Spencer Paysinger and rookie Justin Anderson, added from the practice squad on Saturday, as reserves.
