Giants Morning Report: Coughlin says media 'battering' hurts players

New York Giants headlines for Saturday, 11/15:

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning, New York Giants fans! Here is your Giants Morning Report for this very chilly Saturday here in upstate New York.

Coughlin: 'Battering' by media can 'create some doubt'

During his weekly exclusive interview with Michael Eisen of Giants.com, Giants head coach Tom Coughlin

"... all this battering of sorts, which I do not pay attention to nor do I read, but what it does to the players who are obviously young and not experienced, it starts to create some doubt. You can see it in the way they play. They don’t play as aggressively, they don’t fly around to the ball, they don’t do the things that come absolutely natural.

"If you were teaching them a new game and they were young – for example the percentages right there on that sheet of paper about fumble recoveries. We’re at the low point of the league. You ask yourself why. Well, it’s just a matter of aggressiveness and being able to believe you can overcome whatever comes your way. That happens naturally with confidence. But when you haven’t had success, you struggle with confidence. You want it desperately, but the difference is those that can get back to the basics to realize the competitive nature of the game, the fundamental aspect of why you play, the pride and you play the game… like I told them, I firmly believe at the end of every game, you’re supposed to be carried off. That’s what you put into the game. That’s what you give. With that, with great effort, it’s very difficult to find fault with anybody when you get that kind of effort. That’s what you try to tell them."

No word on Geoff Schwartz

Will offensive lineman Geoff Schwartz make his Giants debut on Sunday? There was no word from the Giants on Friday as to whether Schwartz, on short-term IR all season after suffering a dislocated toe, would be activated for Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers. If Schwartz is going to play Sunday, the Giants have until 4 p.m. ET today to add him to the 53-man roster. Per league rules, the Giants have until Monday to make a decision on whether to activate Schwartz or place him on season-ending injured reserve.
