The New York Giants opened the week as 3-point underdogs to the San Francisco 49ers. The line for Sunday's game at MetLife Stadium has, however, quickly moved to 4.5 points in many of the popular sports betting houses.
Seriously, who can blame anyone for putting their money on the 49ers this Sunday? Sure, the common perception is that the 1 p.m. ET start should be an advantage for the Giants, with that being 10 a.m. on the West Coast. Still, these are the going-the-wrong-way Giants.
The Giants have lost four straight games, being blown out in three of those. They have lost all six games they have played this season against teams with winning records. They just gave up 510 yards of total offense, including an embarrassing 350 yards rushing, to the Seattle Seahawks. The 49ers, with running back Frank Gore and quarterback Colin Kaepernick, have the same type of inside-outside read-option capability the Giants were clueless against on Sunday vs. the Seahawks.
Coach Tom Coughlin and quarterback Eli Manning have each talked about the progress made this season by the Giants, although the 3-6 record doesn't show it. What the Giants really need is a victory, especially one over a quality team that would be a sign that perhaps better days are coming for the Giants.
Oddsmakers, though, don't see the Giants getting that victory on Sunday.
