[UPDATE: Cullen Jenkins has now been ruled out.]
Fighting to control league-leading rusher DeMarco Murray and stay in the NFC East race, the New York Giants have apparently lost two starting defenders in Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys. Middle linebacker Jon Beason is out and defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins is doubtful.
Beason apparently suffered a recurrence of the foot/toe injury that has plagued him all season. Jenkins suffered a calf strain. Beason played in the Giants' season-opener, but then did not play again until last week against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Without Beason, Jameel McClain moved to middle linebacker. Rookie Devon Kennard took over for McClain on the strong side. You have to wonder if Beason, who broke his foot during OTAs, and the Giants made a mistake by opting fof rest and rehab initially rather than surgery.
With Jenkins out, the Giants have only Mike Patterson, Johnathan Hankins and Markus Kuhn at defensive tackle. Rookie Jay Bromley is inactive today.
Much more in the injury situation in the post-game update.
