Victor Cruz was officially placed on season-ending injured Tuesday by the New York Giants, one day after undergoing surgery for his season-ending torn patellar tendon. The Giants replaced him on the 53-man roster by signing cornerback Chandler Fenner off the practice squad.
Fenner, 24, was with the Giants during the preseason and began the regular season on the practice squad. He was promoted to the 53-man roster for one game earlier this season, Week 5 against the Atlanta Falcons. With Trumaine McBride out due to thumb surgery and possibly headed to injured reserve and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie suffering from what is now being termed an IT band injury the Giants were short-handed at cornerback.
Fenner, from Holy Cross, spent 2012 and 2013 with the Seattle Seahawks but never appeared in a game.
The Giants also made a change on their practice squad, adding wide receiver Chris Harper and terminating the contract of wide receiver Travis Harvey. Harper, who played at Kansas State, was a fourth-round pick of the Seahawks in 2013. He has spent time with the Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers. He played in four games on special teams for the Packers last season. The 25-year-old is 6-foot-1, 229 pounds.
