The move has been anticipated for days now, and was incorrectly reported as having happened on Tuesday, but the New York Giants officially placed running back Andre Brown on IR/Designated to Return on Wednesday. The corresponding roster move was to add defensive end Adewale Ojomo to the 53-man roster.
Brown suffered a small fracture in his left leg in the preseason finale against the New England Patriots. This will, of course, increase speculation about what veteran running back the Giants might bring in to add depth behind David Wilson. Former Giants Brandon Jacobs and D.J. Ware are among players who are avialable.
Brown is eligible to begin practicing six weeks from today and eligible to play in a game eight weeks from today. Since the Giants’ bye follows their eighth game, Brown will first be eligible to suit up on Nov. 10 at home against the Oakland Raiders.
Ojomo was on the Giants’ roster for the entire 2012 season. He played in one game (vs. Cleveland on Oct. 7) and was inactive for the other 15 games. Ojomo was waived on Saturday and signed to the practice squad the following day.
The move to add Ojomo to the 53-man roster is likely an indication that rookie defensive end Damontre Moore (shoulder), who has not played since the first preseason game, will be inactive Sunday vs. the Dallas Cowboys.
The Giants signed 6-foot-8, 340-pound offensive lineman Sam Baker to take Ojomo's spot on the practice squad. Baker spent the 2012 season on the Arizona Cardinals' practice squad. He was waived Saturday by the Kansas City Chiefs.
