New York Giants' coach Tom Coughlin bristled Monday afternoon at some of the critical comments made earlier in the day by former Giants great Carl Banks. Among other things, Banks said the Giants lost Sunday "without a fight" and showed a "lack of pride."

"I don't like that. That is a very strong thing for someone to say," Coughlin said. "It wasn't pretty, I will say that. But I don't believe they quit."

Coughlin did admit, however, that "I did challenge our pride a little bit today."

The Giants are 0-3 for the first time in Coughlin's 10 seasons as head coach.

"Each year is a new year and each situation is a totally different situation. We're scratching and fighting to try to find answers," Coughlin said.

The coach repeated something he said last week when the Giants were 0-2.

"I think we’re putting them in the right positions," he said. "The personnel here has got to play better."

Coughlin said there is a "laundry list" of things the Giants need to do better.

"There's things that we can accomplish. Can we accomplish everything at one time, I'm not sure," Coughlin said.

Coughlin said the Giants would not make any roster moves simply for the purpose of sending some type of message to the team.

Your team is your team. If there is something that we think we can do, can help then I would consider it," Coughlin said. "You've gotta deal with reality."

Do the Giants have enough talent to be a winning team?

"We're gonna certainly find out," Coughlin said. "We're gonna go to whatever extreme we have to to try to uncover people that can help us win."

Notes

Coughlin said that starting center David Baas and right guard Chris Snee both "have some issues" that "have to be looked at." Coughlin did not elaborate. Snee had offseason hip surgery. Baas had several offseason surgeries and suffered an MCL injury during the preseason.
