Allen Bradford: Get to know the newest Giant

Allen Bradford, awarded to the New York Giants via waivers on Thursday, has had an interesting NFL journey. He was drafted in the sixth round of the 2011 draft by teh Tampa Bay Buccaneers and had five carries for 13 yards. After being cut he signed with the Seattle Seahawks in 2012 and was converted to middle linebacker.

To find out more about the 5-foot-11, 242-pound 25-year-old I turned to Danny Kelly, editor of SB Nation's Seahawks web site, Field Gulls, for insight. Here is Kelly's response, sent via e-mail:

Bradford made some noise this preseason as a backup middle linebacker to Bobby Wagner. He's fairly fast, very physical, and from what we've heard from coaches, plays with unrivaled tenacity. So, at the very least, he's got the killer instinct you like to see at the position. It's a little surprising that the Seahawks released him, because he seemed to have carved out a role as the backup MIKE in our system, but apparently they feel comfortable with the veteran Heath Farwell there. Regardless, at worst, Bradford is a strong special teams player and a guy that could probably see playing time at MIKE on some teams. I'm assuming the Giants see him as a linebacker, but he's also a former running back, so perhaps they're thinking of moving him back there.

Can he help the Giants? We will find out. It sounds, however, like he might be a player with some upside.
