In a move that has to be considered a huge surprise, the New York Giants announced today they have placed starting middle linebacker Dan Connor on season-ending injured reserve. The Giants were awarded middle linebacker Allen Bradford, formerly of the Seattle Seahawks, off waivers.

Connor suffered his second neck burner in as many weeks during Sunday's season-opening loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Acquired as a free agent during the offseason, Connor won the starting middle linebacker job during the preseason.

Mark Herzlich will now take over as the Giants' middle linebacker.

Bradford, 5-foot-11 and 242 pounds, played in Seattle's season-opening victory at Carolina but had no tackles.Bradford was a sixth-round pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2011 and was actually drafted as a running back . He played one game for the Bucs in 2011 and have five carries for 13 yards.

He was signed by the Seahawks and converted to linebacker. During the preseason he had 21 tackles, a pass defensed, a special teams tackle and a fumble recovery.

The Giants also made a practice squad move, re-signing wide receiver Marcus Harris and terminating the contract of offensive lineman Steven Baker.
