New York Giants' roster moves likely aren't finished yet

NFL teams have until noon Sunday to place waiver claims on players cut Saturday.

The 53-man roster the New York Giants settled on Saturday night almost certainly won't be the 53-man roster that open the season Sept. 8 vs. the Dallas Cowboys. That is because waiver claims for players let go by the other 31 NFL teams on Saturday can be made until noon Sunday, and players will be awarded to teams after that.

Thus, it's a cruel fact of NFL life that should the Giants look to the waiver wire for help and be awarded any players that some players told Saturday they had made an NFL roster will be told 24 hours later they are out of a job.

Are there any players cut Saturday you would like to see the Giants claim? The waiver wire priority is based on last season's standings, with the worst team getting top priority. Thus, it equates roughly to the 2013 NFL Draft Order minus any shuffling due to trades. Players who go unclaimed on Sunday become free agents able to sign with any team.

The Giants' 53-man roster includes several curious decisions. By cutting Kyle Bosworth the Giants have left themselves with only five linebackers. By dropping both Tyler Sash and David Caldwell the Giants have only untested rookie Cooper Taylor as a backup safety. Our poll, incidentally, has thus far found the cut of David Carr in favor of Curtis Painter to be the most surprising. Carr has received 571 of 1,598 votes (36 percent). Bosworth 18 percent and Sash 16 percent.

The Giants also may still place running back Andre Brown on IR/Designated To Return, something they cannot do until Tuesday. If so, would they look to add an experienced running back to the trio of David Wilson, Da'Rel Scott and Michael Cox?

The Giants can also begin assembling their eight-man practice squad Sunday afternoon. Below is the 53-man roster as it sits this morning.
