[Note by Ed Valentine, 09/01/13 4:34 PM EDT: Ralph Vacchiano reports that defensive end Adewale Ojomo and offensive linemen Eric Herman and Stephen Goodin have been added to the practice squad. That would leave one vacancy at this point if all seven players are correct.]

[Note by Ed Valentine, 09/01/13 4:31 PM EDT: So far Charles James, Matt Broha, Julian Talley and Marcus Harris are the four names being reported as having been added to the practice squad. Official word from the Giants later on.]

In addition to making waiver claims that would impact the 53-man roster, the New York Giants can begin establishing their eight-man practice squad at noon ET on Sunday. That means several of the young players cut on Saturday could be back with the Giants today, although not part of the active roster.

Here are the practice squad eligible players the Giants cut on Saturday:

OG Eric Herman
DE Matt Broha
OL Bryant Browning
CB Terrence Frederick
OG Stephen Goodin
WR Kevin Hardy
WR Marcus Harris
OT Matt McCants
WR Julian Talley
CB Charles James
DE Adewale Ojomo

Players first have to clear waivers, going unclaimed by any of the other 31 teams, to be placed on the practice squad. Players claimed on waivers must be placed on the 53-man roster by the team they are awarded to.

Here is a little bit more on practice squad rules:

  • To be practice squad eligible players must be free agents who do not have an accrued season in the NFL.
  • Players who were on the 46-player active list for less than nine regular season games during each of any accrued seasons.
  • A player cannot serve on a practice squad for more than three seasons

James, an undrafted free agent, would seem like a practice squad lock if he goes unclaimed. He impressed at cornerback throughout the preseason and in the punt return role, where he averaged 10.0 yards on seven returns, including a long of 30 yards.

Herman, a seventh-round pick and the only 2013 draft choice not to make the 53-man roster, would also seem likely to be added to the practice squad.

Broha was a member of the practice squad a season ago. Coach Tom Coughlin said Saturday Broha "was very much involved" in discussions for a spot on the 53-man roster. It stands to reason that he will be back on the practice squad if no one claims him.

Ojomo spent last season on the 53-man roster, although he was only active for one game.

McCants was a 2012 sixth-round draft choice and spent last season on the practice squad.

At least one of the receivers, most likely Hardy or Talley, would seem like logical candidates.

What are your thoughts on who you would like to see on the practice squad?
