Giants' Injury Report: Victor Cruz improving, targeting opener

Victor Cruz is progressing and seems to think he will be ready to face the Dallas Cowboys in the regular-season opener.

New York Giants' wide receiver Victor Cruz has shed the walking boot and crutches he was using last week to protect his injured heel, and said Tuesday he plans to play in the regular-season opener vs. the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 8.

"Potentially, in my mind, that's a day that I'm targeting," he said. "So I'm going to work diligently this week while the team is away and focus on getting myself right and ready to practice potentially by next week."

Here are some other Giants' injury notes:

  • Jason Pierre-Paul, who just came off the PUP list this week following back surgery, took some first-team snaps with the first team during practice on Tuesday.
  • Center David Baas remains out with a knee injury, but says he is "feeling better every day."
  • Damontre Moore, who has missed the last two preseason games with a shoulder contusion, practiced on Tuesday.
  • According to reports, wide receiver Ramses Barden (knee), cornerback Jayron Hosley (ankle) and defensive tackle Markus Kuhn (PUP) are the only players who did not practice.
