Preseason power rankings suggest the Giants are projected either first or second in NFC East

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

It's an end-of-summer tradition: post-preseason power rankings.

Numerous media outlets have released their mid-to-late August version of their NFL power rankings, most of which have the New York Giants positioned at high as No. 10 and as low as No. 16.

Here's a roundup of the rankings:

CBSSports.com

Giants rank: 10

Analysis: "The key is getting the pass rush back to what it used to be. I think Tom Coughlin does his best coaching when nobody has them as a conference favorite."

NFC East: Giants (10), Washington Redskins (13), Dallas Cowboys (14), Philadelphia Eagles (25)

Top 5: Denver Broncos, San Francisco 49ers, Atlanta Falcons, New England Patriots, Green Bay Packers

More

NFL.com

Giants rank: 15

Analysis: "Tom Coughlin's three favorite things: a) running late, b) a VHS copy of the 1999 AFC Championship Game, and c) running banks who fumble. Here's to New York Giants running back Andre Brown not getting the David Wilson treatment."

NFC East: Redskins (10), Giants (15), Cowboys (17), Eagles (26)

Top 5: 49ers, Broncos, Seattle Seahawks, Falcons, Houston Texans

More

Newsday

Giants rank: 12

Analysis: "Eli Manning says the Giants are ready for a bounce-back year after failing to reach the playoffs in 2012. He's ready, but is the defense? Stopping the run is a must."

NFC East: Redskins (8), Giants (12), Cowboys (15), Eagles (25)

Top 5: 49ers, Seahawks, Falcons, Baltimore Ravens, Packers

More

USA TODAY Sports

Giants rank: 13

Analysis: "Hakeem Nicks (had a) career-low 692 yards in 2012."

NFC East: Giants (13), Redskins (15), Cowboys (19), Eagles (27)

Top 5: Broncos, Seahawks, 49ers, Packers, Texans

More

Business Insider

Giants rank: 16

Analysis: "Victor Cruz got a contract extension, so that distraction is over."

NFC East: Redskins (6) Giants (16), Cowboys (20), Eagles (30)

Top 5: Texans, 49ers, Seahawks, Broncos, Ravens

Bleacher Report

Giants rank: 14

Analysis: "The Giants' pass defense was a joke by the end of last season, and it is hard to see why it will be much better this year. If New York can get back a feared pass rush, the sky is the limit for this team. However, I'm not jumping on that bandwagon until I see it happen."

NFC East: Redskins (12), Giants (14), Cowboys (15), Eagles (24)

Top 5: 49ers, Falcons, Broncos, Seahawks, Patriots
