The New York Giants host their MetLife Stadium co-tenants, the New York Jets Saturday at MetLife Stadium (7 p.m. ET). Head coach Tom Coughlin could care less who the opponent is for the Giants, 1-1, in the preseason. Coming off a stinker in a 20-12 loss to the Indianapolis Colts Coughlin just wants to see better play.
"It's our third preseason game. It's an important game from our standpoint because we need improvement," Coughlin said. "We haven't scored any points, we haven't scored touchdowns. We're still lacking in the turnover area, which as I mentioned, I thought we had opportunities the other day. There are some things that we are definitely trying to accomplish: putting pressure on the opponent's quarterback, continuing to stop the run, having a good mix between the run and the pass, and having consistency.
"We've got a lot of things to improve on."
For the Giants, the game should be the first preseason start for first-round pick Justin Pugh, who is expected to take over at right tackle. The game could also mark the debut of cornerback Terrell Thomas, trying to come back after missing the last two seasons with ACL tears.
The teams will meet for the 45th consecutive preseason since the series began in 1969. The Giants trail in the series, 23-20-1. In the regular season, the Giants and Jets have met 12 times, with the Giants leading the series, 8-4.
