New York Giants fullback Henry Hynoski said Wednesday that he is "making good progress" in his recovery from offseason knee surgery.
"I’ve been doing all my rehab inside but now I’m able to get out on the field here and do some different drills and stuff. We pick it up every day a little bit and I’ve just got to intensify over the next few weeks," Hynoski said. "I’m looking forward to getting back out on the field as soon as possible and playing some football."
The third-year fullback has been hoping to return for the season-opener vs. the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 8. On Tuesday, he did not promise he would make it.
"I’m going to do everything in my power, I’m very diligent in everything I do to get back on the field," Hynoski said. "Whenever that is, whenever that may be, I’ll be ready. I'm very encouraged."
Tom Quinn: Punt return job 'wide open'
Rueben Randle ended up as the Giants' primary punt returner last season. He averaged 7.2 yards per return, and special teams coordinator Tom Quinn appears to be looking for more explosiveness from that spot.
"It’s wide open. We’ve got Rueben. We’ve got Jayron Hosley. We’ve got Jernigan. David [Wilson] is taking some reps back there and then we also have some young guys that we’re interested about like Hardy. Kevin Hardy is one receiver. Laron Scott … So those are the guys that are in the mix right now," Quinn said.
