The Denver Broncos have released former starting middle linebacker Joe Mays, the team announced on its web site. OK, Beezer Brigade, I might as well go ahead and ask -- are you guys interested in the 28-year-old, who is entering his sixth NFL season?
Mays started 12 games for the Broncos in 2011, but played only six games and started four in 2012. SB Nation's Mile High Report said that Mays "was demoted during the season in 2012 after reportedly consistently misrelaying the defensive calls from the sideline to the huddle."
The Giants have third-year player Mark Herzlich and veteran free-agent acquisition Dan Connor competing for the middle linebacker job. GM Jerry Reese has continued to look for linebackers on the free-agent market, adding Aaron Curry and Kyle Bosworth during the off-season.
Cutting Mays reportedly saved the Broncos about $3.3 million against the salary cap. The Giants seem to be offering free agents one-year deals at the veteran minimum. Would you be in favor of making an offer to Mays?
