As we continue our player-by-player breakdown of the 90-man roster the New York Giants will bring to training camp we have arrived at one of the most popular Giants, punter Steve Weatherford.
2012 Season In Review
Weatherford continues to get better and better, justifying the five-year, $12.75-million contract the Giants gave him prior to the 2012 season by having the best season of his career and by continuing to be a terrific representative for the franchise. Weatherford averaged 47.5 yards per punt in 2012, nearly two full yards better than his previous career best, 45.7 yards per punt, in 2011. Weatherford had a 39.4 yard net average.
2013 Outlook
I don't know if it's possible for Weatherford to continue gaining distance on his punts. At some point he has to reach his ceiling. Weatherford, though, did drop off in one area in 2012 -- getting only five punts fair-caught after 15 in 2011. Maybe part of that is increased distance, but it is something to watch. Regardless, expect another quality season from the Giants' punter.
