The 'Beezer Brigade (yes, I've given you guys a nickname) here at Big Blue View won't be happy with the news that veteran linebacker Daryl Smith, the best linebacker left on the free-agent market, has signed with the Baltimore Ravens. Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun says it's a one-year deal for "a relatively small investment."
I had trumpeted the idea that the Giants should pursue the 31-year-old Smith for much of the offseason. Smith spent nine seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars as a top-notch outside linebacker, although he was limited to only a handful of games last season by a serious groin injury.
The Giants have signed free agent middle linebacker Dan Connor and free agent outside linebackers Aaron Curry and Kyle Bosworth during the offseason, adding competiton at the position.
There are really no big names left on the market. Walter Football has a look at the best linebackers still available. Anyone on the list you would like to see in a Giants' uniform?
