The New York Giants today filled the final spot on their 90-man offseason roster by signing free agent wide receiver Keith Carlos. The Giants had an opening on their roster after waiving rookie running back Jeremy Wright on Friday.
Carlos, 6-foot and 199 pounds, was briefly with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2011, but has no professional playing experience.
He played at Purdue University in 2009 and 2010, first as a wide receiver and then as a running back. Carlos played in nine games each year. In his first season with the Boilermakers, he caught 21 passes for 242 yards and a touchdown. Carlos also returned five kickoffs for 134 yards, with a long run back of 34 yards.
In 2010, Carlos had 56 rushing attempts for 314 yards (5.6-yard avg.) and two touchdowns and caught five passes for 22 yards.
There had been some speculation that the Giants would add a fullback with Henry Hynoski recovering from knee surgery, but for now they have added a wide receiver to the mix.
