The NFL career of former New York Giants wide receiver Steve Smith is over.

Smith, you will recall, set the Giants' single-season record for receptions in 2009 with 107. He remains the only receiver in franchise history to catch more than 100 passes in a single season.

Smith injured his knee during the 2010 season and then surprisingly left the Giants via free agency for the Philadelphia Eagles. He caught only 11 passes in nine games for the Eagles in 2011 and 14 passes for the St. Louis Rams in 2012. In four seasons with the Giants Smith caught 220 passes, 11 for touchdowns.

Smith had signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a free agent during the offseason. See Bucs Nation for the Tampa Bay perspective.
