Good morning, New York Giants' fans!
Sources: Victor Cruz's relationship with Jay-Z's Roc Nation could keep receiver with Giants - Yahoo! Sports
From Yahoo! Sports: Cruz wants to take advantage of the business and marketing opportunities he envisions with Jay-Z's marketing company
Paul Schwartz: New York Giants WR Victor Cruz can get rich even though his options are limited - NYPOST.com
It Is tough to learn you are not worth what you think you are, which is why Victor Cruz is finding it so difficult to accept an offer that Giants owner John Mara aptly says will make the 26-year old receiver "a very wealthy young man.’’
The Giants want to make Cruz rich, but he wants to become richer. This does not make Cruz greedy and no doubt is exceedingly frustrating to him, and also humbling.
Cruz is learning the hard way that as a restricted free agent he is far more restricted than free. It has been 10 years since any NFL team gave up a first-round draft pick to sign a restricted free agent. One week from today, it is going to be 11 years.
Why Victor Cruz Might Not Report to the Giants Offseason Program | Inside Football
While Cruz could report for the program to work out, because he is not under contract, in order to participate in anything other than the classroom sessions, he would have to sign an injury waiver, a document very similar to what an unsigned rookie or undrafted free agent signs before he is allowed to take part in the rookie minicamp.
Is that a gamble Cruz is willing to take given that the RFA signing period ends April 19? Don’t count on it, as if he does sign such a waiver, he loses a great deal of leverage in his quest for a new contract.
Justin Tuck: Losing Osi Umenyiora will be 'huge burden' - ESPN New York
Osi Umenyiora thinks Justin Tuck could be in store for a monster year now that the two aren't divvying up snaps.
But Tuck says losing Umenyiora to Atlanta in free agency "is going to be a huge burden."
"Let Osi tell it, I’m going to have the best year of my life," Tuck said at an NFL Play 60 event at P.S. 21 in Staten Island, N.Y., where he also talked about Victor Cruz's contract issue. "It’s funny. He said the year I got hurt, you made your first Pro Bowl.
"[But] you can never replace a guy like Osi," Tuck continued. "A lot of people don’t understand how much of a help he is in the locker room and as a motivator. We always have worked together to try and polish our game. Losing him is going to be a huge burden."
