A couple of developments around the NFL the past couple of days could have long-term implications for New York Giants' wide receivers Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz, both of whom are trying to work out long-term deals with the Giants. Nicks has one year remaining on his contract before he can become an unrestricted free agent. Cruz is currently a restricted free agent.
What are those developments?
The first is the five-year, $56-million deal wide receiver Dwayne Bowe received from the Kansas City Chiefs. Bowe will receive $26 million guaranteed.
The second is word that Brian Hartline of the Miami Dolphins, who had a career-best 74 catches for 1,083 yards a season ago is on the verge of a multi-year deal worth $6-$6.5 million with the Miami Dolphins. Before his breakout 2012 season Hartline's best season had been a 43-catch effort in 2010.
Perhaps those two deals set the parameters for the Giants to make deals with Nicks and Cruz.
