9:35 p.m.: Giants' fans, you no longer have to worry about the team signing linebacker Jasper Brinkley.

6:49 p.m.: Per the NFLPA web site, placekicker Josh Brown's contract with the Giants is for $940,000. No indication about the salary cap hit.

6:43 p.m.: This one does not affect the Giants, but it is interesting. Former Giant wide receiver Mario Manninghan has accepted a pay cut, slashing his base salary in half, to stay with the San Francisco 49ers. His base salary for 2013 goes from $3.6 million to $1.8 million.

5:50 p.m.: The Giants have announced the signing of veteran safety Ryan Mundy, who previously played for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mundy will likely back up starters Antrel Rolle and Stevie Brown.

4:22 p.m.: Say goodbye to Kenny Phillips, as had been expected. Unfortunately, the Giants will be seeing him twice a year.

3:19 p.m.: Linebacker Keith Rivers is re-signing with the Giants. He's a pretty good player, if he can stay on the field.

2:01 p.m.: Sorry, David Diehl haters.

1:30 p.m.: It looks like the Giants are about to protect themselves against the expected loss of safety Kenny Phillips.

10:30 a.m.: Jenny Vrentas mentions another linebacker the Giants might be considering.

10 a.m.: From perusing Twitter, it seems that both Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles fans are hopeful that their team will reach out safety Kenny Phillips. No reports yet that either team has done that. The safety market is flush with veteran players, so best guess is it takes a while to sort it out.

7:44 a.m.: Our first update that actually came out around 4 a.m. from Adam Schefter (does he ever sleep?). Here it is:

In all honesty, I'm not a Maualuga fan. With the interest in Brinkley and Maualuga, though, it shows the Giants are exploring the middle linebacker market.

Let's try something a little bit different today in regards to our coverage of 2013 NFL Free Agency. This thread will be used as a 'live blog' to constantly update news and rumors about the New York Giants -- or moves that might impact the Giants.

As I have been doing I will continue to post separate threads on signings and major moves of interest.

We can start this morning with a note from Mike Garafolo of USA Today about safety Kenny Phillips. Garafolo tweeted that Phillips "has a few irons in the fire but nothing imminent."

Let's see if anything develops for Phillips, guard Kevin Boothe or either of the Giants' receivers on the markter -- Domenik Hixon or Ramses Barden.

We will also wait for any developments regarding linebacker Jasper Brinkley or safety Ryan Mundy. Brinkley visited Wednesday and Mundy is expected to visit Thursday.

If I miss anything during the day please feel free to add it in the comments.
