Free-agent tight Martellus Bennett took to Twitter Thursday afternoon to once again reiterate that his preference would be to re-sign with the New York Giants for next season.
Everyone keeps asking me about free agency. My outlook is NYG and if not wherever my brother is most likely.
— Martellus Bennett (@JoeGryffindor) February 14, 2013
Bennett's brother, Michael, is a defensive end for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and is also an unrestricted free agent. We detailed recently how Tampa Bay has much more salary cap room than the Giants and might try to pitch the idea of playing together to the brothers.
After revising the contract of Terrell Thomas the Giants are roughly $4 million under the likely 2013 salary cap. The Giants need more room, however, if they are going to sign Bennett and work out long-term deals with Victor Cruz, Will Beatty and Hakeem Nicks.
Bennett caught a career-high 55 passes for the Giants in 2012, averaging 11.4 yards per catch and scoring five touchdowns.
