File this post in the giving credit where credit is due department. Jenny Vrentas of the Star-Ledger has posted a terrific interview with Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis. Why is that significant, or interesting to New York Giants' fans? Davis is the only player in the NFL who has made it back to the league after three ACL surgeries on the same knee -- which Giants' defensive back Terrell Thomas is currently trying to do.
Vrentas discovered that Davis and Thomas knew each other, and that Davis has been communicating weekly with Thomas since the cornerback suffered his third knee injury during training camp in 2012.
"I told him, ‘Don’t give up on your dream, believe in yourself and continue to fight,’ " Davis recalled in a phone interview this week. " ‘I’m living proof, and I’m going to do whatever I can each and every week to show you that it is possible. If you continue to work hard and believe in what you can do, then you’ll be in the same position that I was in.’ "
Davis had 105 tackles in 15 games (12 starts) for the Panthers in 2012. He had a +4.8 score from Pro Football Focus.
Thomas and the Giants can only hope that his comeback is somewhere close to being that successful.
