Giants-Lions Final Score: Giants defeat Detroit, 23-20, in overtime

Josh Brown kicks game-winning field goal in overtime as Giants defeat Lions.

The New York Giants survived a game it seems no one wanted to win, probably appropriate for the NFL's two most turnover-prone teams, defeating the Detroit Lions, 23-20, in overtime Sunday at Ford Field in Detroit, MI.

The Giants improved to 6-9. The loss knocked the 7-8 Lions out of playoff contention in the NFC.

Josh Brown hit the game-winning 45-yard field goal with 7:37 left in overtime. Brown's kick came after Giants' coach Tom Coughlin chose to go for a first down with the Giants facing fourth-and-7 at the Detroit 42-yard line. Eli Manning hit Jerrel Jernigan for a 15-yard gain and a first down, setting up the winning field goal.

The Giants led 13-3 at halftime before Detroit scored 17 straight points to take a 20-13 lead. Will Hill intercepted a tipped Matthew Stafford pass 38 yards for a game-tying score with 4:57 left in the fourth quarter, setting up the overtime.

Boxscore Heroes: Jernigan had six catches for 80 yards, and Manning targeted him 12 times. Mathias Kiwanuka played his best game of the season with six tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble, a pass defensed and five hits on Stafford. Hill had nine tackles and the game-tying interception return for a score.

Next Week: The Giants finish the 2013 season with a home game at MetLife Stadium against the Washington Redskins. Game time is 1 p.m. ET.
