NFC Playoff Picture: Giants' odds improving

Can the Giants really make the playoffs? The odds still are not good, but they are improving.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Are you buying the 3-6 New York Giants as true playoff contenders yet? The Giants' odds of becoming the first 0-6 team in NFL history to make the playoffs remain long, but Las Vegas oddsmakers are increasingly showing some faith in the Giants.

In this week's odds from Bovada (www.Bovada.lv, Twitter: @BovadaLV) the Giants are listed with 50-1 odds of winning the 2014 Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium. The Giants were 75-1 a week ago.

As for just making the playoffs, Bovada has the Giants with 5-1 odds of winning the NFC East. The Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles, tied atop the NFC East standings at 5-5, are given 13-10 odds. The Washington Redskins are 8-1.

Not everyone believes in the Giants. Football Outsiders recently gave the Giants only a 1.7 percent chance of winning the NFC East. Playoffstatus.com gives the Giants a 6 percent chance of reaching the playoffs.
