Peyton Hillis 'at peace' as he joins Giants

Peyton HIllis, on his fifth NFL team in a six-year career, says he is coming to the New York Giants "with an open heart and open mind."

The 6-foot-2, 250-pound running back's career has gone downhill since a 1,177-yard 2010 season after which he was selected for the cover of Madden NFL 12.

Hillis played only 10 games in 2011, gaining 587 yards. He signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2012, but carried only 85 times for 309 yards (3.6 yards per carry) backing up Jamaal Charles. He cut after one game this year by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

"I firmly believe I never had too much of an opportunity after I left Cleveland," Hillis said. "I was behind Jamaal Charles at Kansas City. I didn't get too much playing time. I felt when I got in I did well, and then I was in Tampa and never really got to touch the field because of Doug Martin. He's pretty good. I'm just here to do whatever I can to help the team win. I think that this is a good team that can turn it around.

"I came at peace with myself and my situation long ago. All I can do is what I can right now, so I can't look in the past. I've got to keep on going."

Hillis hopes that having played for Tampa Bay, where former Giants' quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan is the offensive coordinator, will smooth his learning curve.

"From what I understand, a lot of the terminology is the same as it was in Tampa, and so it may be a quick process," Hillis said. "Maybe, maybe not. We'll see."
