The last time the New York Giants had the 49th overall selection in the NFL Draft was 1999, when they used it to select Joe Montgomery, a running back from Ohio State. That turned out to be a regrettable choice as Montgomery gained 348 yards as a rookie, but only 24 more over the next two years with the Giants and Carolina Panthers before washing out of the league.
