In the interests of helping Jesse -- who has done a fantastic job with these -- and bringing you more 2013 NFL Draft prospect profiles leading up to the actual draft at the end of April I will be pitching in some profiles of my own over the next few weeks.
You guys know I don't study film the way Jesse does or have the passion for studying the draft the way he does -- and the way some of you -- do. The profiles I add to our collection will follow the format we have established, but will rely on outside sources and not my own film study or personal impression.
Today's profile will be on Kawann Short, a defensive tackle from Purdue who could be in play late in the first round or into the second round, according to most draft boards.

Pros
Rob Rang of CBS says the 6-foot-3, 315-pound Short can be an "immovable object in the middle of the field." NFL.com says Short is a player who has "NFL size and length who can be as good as he wants to be."

There are questions about his consistency, his effort and about whether or not he is more than simply a space-eater in the middle. There are also questions about his conditioning

Does He Fit With The Giants?
Sure he does. Short is Mocking The Draft's eighth-ranked defensive tackle and 57th-ranked prospect overall. Provided the Giants are convinced his effort would be there, he's a guy who can defend the run in the middle and help a defensive tackle rotation that remains a question mark.

Final Thought
Defensive tackle is on the list of positions most analysts -- and fans -- would like to see the Giants add some depth to. Especially guys who are run-stoppers. NFL.com says "Scouts have been raving about Short's potential as a three-technique." Use a second-round pick on a guy like this, put him in a locker room with a veteran cast around him and a coach like Tom Coughlin and you might have something here.
