In its latest 2013 NFL Mock Draft, released Monday morning, SB Nation has selected Arthur Brown, middle linebacker, Kansas State, for the New York Giants with the 19th overall selection of the first round.
SB Nation writes:
With pending free agents at the linebacker position, the Giants could soon be in the market for multiple players at the position. Arthur Brown is considered by some to be undersized, but there isn’t a linebacker in this class who plays the run as well as he does. He gets off blocks with ease and is just as effective in coverage. New York would be lucky to have him.
NFL.com ranks Brown as the best inside linebacker in the 2013 NFL Draft class: In its profile of Brown, NFL.com says:
Instinctive player who usually finds the football and plays bigger than his height indicates. Strong, secure tackler who wraps and rarely misses, even against larger ballcarriers.
SB Nation's Mocking The Draft has Brown ranked No. 12 on its Big Board. Jesse has him ranked No. 23 on the Big Blue View Big Board.
In this mock, Brown is the first inside linebacker taken. Kevin Minter of LSU went 27th to the Houston Texans and Manti Te'o of Notre Dame 32nd to the Baltimore Ravens. Alex Ogletree of Georgia fell out of the first round.
There is some debate over whether Brown is a weak-side linebacker or middle linebacker at the NFL level, with Walter Football calling him the "prototypical weak side linebacker." Walter Football also writes:
He is a tackling machine that can fly to the football. Brown has sideline to sideline range, and can really chase down plays and close on the ball carrier. He has the athleticism and agility to match up and drop back into coverage and make plays. He is physical for a player his size, but he will need some protection in front of him to keep blockers away from him.
Here are some other interesting notes from this mock:
-- BYU defensive end Ezekiahl Ansah zoomed up the board and went No. 5 to the Detroit Lions.
-- Two quarterbacks went in the top 10. Geno Smith of West Virginia went No. 1 to the Kansas City Chiefs and Tyler Wilson of Arkanas went No. 7 to the Arizona Cardinals.
Do you like the selection of Brown, Giants' fans?
