Hakeem Nicks will not play Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles, the New York Giants announced on Saturday. Nicks, who has been dealing with lingering effects of a broken foot, has also developed swelling in his knee. He did not travel to Philadelphia with the team.
Nicks had 10 catches for 199 yards against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2, but has not played since. He practiced on Thursday, but was then downgraded to doubtful on Friday and out on Saturday. The Giants have not specified which knee is troubling Nicks.
Nicks' absence, of course, provides another opportunity for Ramses Barden. The fourth-year wide receiver took advantage of getting the start against the Carolina Panthers to haul in a career-high nine passes for 138 yards.
Domenik Hixon, who also missed the Carolina game with a concussion, will play today. Hixon and rookie Reuben Randle will be the backups to Barden and Victor Cruz.
