The New York Giants were entering Week 3 Thursday night against the Carolina Panthers decimated with injuries. Even with missing Hakeem Nicks, Ahmad Bradshaw, Domenik Hixon, and David Diehl, Eli Manning and his offense found a way to put big points on the board and defeated the Panthers 36-7.
Manning was 27-for-35 with 288 yards and a touchdown tonight. The offensive line held their own and have Manning plenty of protection in the pocket and he was able to hit his receivers with little to no pressure.
Andre Brown had another spectacular game filling in for the injured Bradshaw. He rushed for 113 yards, caught three passes for 17 yards and had two touchdowns. The tight end Martellus Bennett also had a big night making six receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown.
One notable with a big night was wide receiver Ramses Barden. With both Nicks and Hixon out, Barden had the biggest night of his career. He caught 138 yards in nine receptions while helping the offense move up the field quickly.
The Giants defense made a big effort to make a dangerous Cam Newton look like a lost and confused quarterback. Newton went just 15 for 30 for 242 yards and three interceptions on the night. Jason Pierre-Paul came very close to picking off Newton an additional two more times. Newton was also limited to just six rushing yards on the night.
Brown got things off and running for the Giants at the start when he made a big 31 yard run that eventually led to a 14-yard pass to Bennett for the first touchdown of the game. Brown and Barden teamed up on the next drive for a combined 37 yards to help set up Lawrence Tynes for a field goal.
Brown scored a 1-yard touchdown to put the Giants ahead 17-0 in the first half. Barden had 139 yards by the time the Giants were leading 20-0 at the half.
The Panthers started to show some signs of life at the start of the second half holding the Giants to a field goal after they fumbled the kickoff. Newton then drove the offense down the field for a touchdown making the score 23-7. The Giants didn't waste time responding and tacked on another three points making the score 26-7 going into the fourth quarter.
However, just as Newton was starting to finally get his rhythm, Pierre-Paul make a big sack to break it. Michael Boley intercepted Newton the following play, which gave the Giants the ball. Brown scored his second touchdown of the game to seal the victory.
The Giants have extra time off to prepare for the Philadelphia Eagles Week 4.
