The New York Giants have placed defensive tackle Shaun Rogers and cornerback Terrell Thomas on Injured Reserve as they pared their roster down to 53 players. Neither player received the short-term IR designation, meaning the season is over for both players.
There had been widespread speculation that the Giants would use the newly-approved short-term designation on Thomas, allowing them to bring him back at midseason. The cornerback missed all of last season with his second torn ACL, then aggravated the injury early in training camp. He had been hopeful, maybe even optimistic, about trying to return early in the season. Those hopes have now been dashed and his once-promising career has be considered in jeopardy.
Rogers suffered a blood clot in his calf. Initial reports were that he would miss the season, but recent indications had been that there was hope he could play this season. This decision means that won't be the case.
